What is Workers Compensation?
Employees who suffer on-the-job injuries or illnesses may be eligible for benefits under the Virginia Workers' Compensation Act. The Virginia Workers’ Compensation Commission oversees the Act and coverage compliance.
The 3 types of Workers’ Compensation claim categories are:
- Record Only: Record Only claims involve no lost time and no physician or hospital care. This claim category may include simple first aid.
- Medical Only: Medical Only claims involve physician or hospital care and less than 7 calendar days of lost time expected.
- Indemnity: Indemnity claims involve physician or hospital care and greater than or equal to 7 calendar days of lost work time expected.
Claim category is determined on behalf of the injured employee upon report of accident or illness.
