Volunteer in the Community

Volunteering is a way to spend time with colleagues outside of work for a good cause. We’re proud that our employees have a positive impact on the community, and we do our best to offer support.

Check on your leave policies to find out about volunteering during work hours. Employees get various hours of paid volunteer leave per year.

  • Academic Staff - 16 hours
  • Medical Center Staff - 8 hours

Email Elizabeth Feola at efeola@virginia.edu to arrange a volunteer opportunity for a group.
Email volunteer@virginia.edu to join our email list for future opportunities. We are also happy to hear your suggestions for more volunteer opportunities.

If you don’t have a specific organization in mind, we invite you to sign up for one of the opportunities below.

City Schoolyard Garden

Spend time in the Jackson-Via School Garden! Once per month, this garden located off of Harris Street, needs to be mowed so that the students and volunteers can easily tend to the garden areas. This will take about 75 minutes and a lawn mower is on-site. This can be done any day or time.
