Beginning November 1, 2010, The University of Virginia will use The Work Number® to provide automated employment and income verifications for our employees.
What is The Work Number®?
The Work Number is an automated service that quickly provides proof of your employment or income. The Work Number can be used anytime, anywhere – available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
How to Use The Work Number®
For Employment Verifications:
Give the verifier (the person needing proof of your employment), the following information:
Your Oracle assignment number (Six digits, can be found on your payslip)
University of Virginia Employer Code: 14053

For Salary Verifications:
There is an added level of security for salary verifications. In order for for verifiers to access salary information, an employee must create a Salary Key, a six-digit number that allows one-time access to your salary information.
Step 1. Access The Work Number®:

Step 2. Select the Employee option and Login.
To Login, have the following information:
University of Virginia Employer Code: 14053
Your UserID: This is your Oracle assignment number (Six digits, can be found on your payslip)
Your PIN: This is the last four digits of your social security number followed by your year of birth
Step 3. Select the “Create a Salary Key” option and record the six-digit number
Step 4. Give the verifier (the person needing proof of your employment plus income), the following information:
- Your Social Security Number
- University of Virginia Employer Code: 14053
- Your Salary Key (from Step 3)

- A Salary Key is an employee authorization to release income information. An employee may get instructions on how to create a Salary Key by visiting www.theworknumber.com, by clicking the link below or by calling 1-800-367-2884.
Q: Who can use The Work Number® service? Who is considered a verifier?
- Any lending institution, property manager or other business that needs to verify employment or income of an employee is considered a verifier and can use the service.
Q: What is considered a Social Services verification?
- Social Services verifications are used for Food Stamps, TANF, Medicaid, Child Support, WIC, Housing, Social Security, etc. Public Service Agencies should visit “Social Services” on the Work Number® Web site at www.theworknumber.com or call 1-800-660-3399.
