Take the Staff Survey

Posted: March 10, 2011

University President Teresa Sullivan requests your participation in a U.Va. staff survey. President Sullivan is interested in knowing what staff think about working at the University of Virginia. This is your opportunity to tell her about your work experience, what is good about working at U.Va. and what you would like to see changed. The text of a letter from President Sullivan to all staff is below.

Staff were invited to participate in the survey via an email from U.Va.’s Center for Survey Research on March 2, 2011. Instructions for the online survey are in the email. The survey closes March 22, 2011.

The survey will take approximately 20-25 minutes to complete, depending upon how many comments you wish to make. You may use work time to complete the survey. Your responses to the questionnaire are completely anonymous and will only be reported in aggregate.

If you have any questions about this survey, please contact CSR Director Jim Ellis at jme2ce@virginia.edu or 243.5224 or Deborah Rexrode at dlr3r@virginia.edu or 243.1088.

Thank you for your participation!

Letter from President Sullivan:

Dear Colleagues:

I write to invite you to participate in an online survey of our Academic Division staff members. The purpose of the survey is to help me and my colleagues in the University administration understand the level of employee satisfaction among staff members and to help us identify areas for improvement. The survey questionnaire addresses a broad range of topics, including the adequacy of your work environment, the quality of your work relationships, opportunities for advancement, and overall job satisfaction. The University’s Center for Survey Research developed the questions in consultation with an advisory committee composed of staff members representing various units across the University.

Your survey response will be completely anonymous, so please feel free to be candid and forthright in your answers. In addition to answering questions, you will have opportunities to write additional comments and to offer advice. It will be helpful for us to hear positive comments about situations and programs that are working well—so we can be sure to sustain them—as well as critical comments.

Our staff members are essential to the work we do here to educate young people and equip them for leadership in their careers and communities. We want you to be satisfied with your work environment and energized by your daily duties. By responding to this survey, you will help us understand the degree to which we are succeeding in our effort to make U.Va. the best work place it can be.

Very truly yours,

Teresa A. Sullivan
President
