About the UVA Health Plan

  • The UVA Health Plan is self-funded, meaning UVA pays claims to physicians, hospitals, and other providers directly from premiums collected from employees and from UVA itself as the employer
  • Aetna is the plan’s third-party medical claims administrator; it processes claims for enrollees
  • Participants should use Aetna network providers in order for claims to be processed at the in-network benefit level
