Employee Emergency Event Status Messages

Below you will find the messages you will hear when you call the Weather Line, see when you visit the University’s Web site, or see and hear on the television or radio in the event of inclement weather or other events. There are essentially three types of messages: those for normal operations (including when inclement weather is expected but has not yet resulted in a schedule modification); those for delays in opening; and those for occasions when only designated employees should report to work.

Hot Line Messages

The Hot Line is 434.924.7669 (formerly known as the weather line or SNOW line). Press “one” for the Academic Division and “two” for the Medical Center.

Academic Division Messages

Default Message (no inclement weather in forecast)

  • The University is operating normally.
  • If conditions change we will update this information.

Normal Operations Message (inclement weather in forecast)

  • This is an update for [DAY OF WEEK, MONTH, DAY OF MONTH].
  • The University is operating normally.
  • If conditions change we will update this information.

Delay Message

  • This is an update for [DAY OF WEEK, MONTH, DAY OF MONTH].
  • Designated Academic Division employees report as scheduled by your supervisor, including designated School of Medicine employees who support clinical operations and critical research.
  • Non-designated employees may be approved for up to a two hour grace period.
  • Classes will be held.
  • If conditions change we will update this information.

Early Closure Message

  • This is an update for [DAY OF WEEK, MONTH, DAY OF MONTH].
  • Designated Academic Division employees remain as scheduled, including designated School of Medicine employees who support clinical operations and critical research.
  • Non-designated employees may leave work at [X].
  • If conditions change we will update this information.

  • During Academic Semester: Classes beginning at [X] or after are cancelled.

  • During Academic Exams: Exams will be held/Exams are rescheduled.

Designated Employees Only Message

  • This is an update for [DAY OF WEEK, MONTH, DAY OF MONTH].

  • Non-designated employees do not report unless otherwise instructed by your supervisor.
